International engineering students who have recently graduated from Australian universities should take the Professional Year Program (PYP) to improve their chances of securing the desired job. After the pandemic, the job market in Australia faced some downtime. Employers are looking for professionals who already have basic practical knowledge and skills for the job. As an engineer, taking a Professional Year Internship equips you with the required skills and knowledge and makes you more eligible for being a part of the Australian workforce.
Engineering Education Australia (EEA), the training division of Engineers Australia, has developed the Engineering Professional Year Program, which includes both theoretical and practical elements. This program lets international students learn about the Australian work culture through seminars and practical training.
The duration of the PYP is 44 weeks for international graduates and postgraduates. Currently, the program is offered to students in the field of Engineering, IT, and Accounting. The program's primary goal is to enhance the professional skills of international students and improve their eligibility in the job market.
During the 32 weeks of the PYP, students take seminars and workshops by accredited education providers. It helps them better understand the Australian work culture, workplace relations and improve their business communication skills. Students also learn how to crack interviews and build up a strong resume.
It involves a 12-week unpaid internship in a company to gain real-time experience of the Australian work culture and get industry-specific training.
If you need more information on PYP or have any doubts regarding the program, kindly contact our Engineering PYP expert at PFEC Global. We can help you get a successful internship that leverages you with excellent industry-specific practical skills and adds points to your CV.
