The Purpose of the Global Talent Independent Program (GTI)

The Purpose of the Global Talent Independent Program (GTI)

For a nation's steady and swift progress, it is necessary to have a skilled workforce in diverse fields. As a result, the core purpose of the program is to–

  • Transfer international skills to Australia

  • Promoting innovation in Australia

  • Creating better job opportunities for skilled individuals

Factors Considered for the Eligibility of the Program

  • The applicant's occupation

  • The applicant's level of education

  • The applicant's work experience

  • The applicant's earnings

  • The applicant's contributions to their field

To be eligible for the Global Talent Visa, applicants must prove that they are globally recognized and have evidence of outstanding achievements, and they are still prominent in their field of expertise. Moreover, the applicants are required to present proof that they will be an asset to Australia and contribute to the betterment of the Australian economy and community.

Assessment of High-Income Threshold

In order to be eligible and apply under the Global Talent Independent (GTI) program, you are to be working in a highly skilled profession in one of the ten target sectors mentioned below and attract a higher income threshold, which is currently around $189,454 AUD (changes every year). While assessing the high-income threshold of an applicant, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) considers:

  • The current salary shown in payslips or contract

  • Future job offers outlining remuneration

  • Recent PhD or Masters graduates in the target sectors

Targeted Sectors

The target sector encompasses highly sought-after jobs that are desired by many. Let’s take a look at the list–

  • AgTech (Agricultural Technology)

  • Space and Advanced Manufacturing

  • FinTech (Financial Technology)

  • Energy and Mining Technology

  • MedTech

  • Cyber Security

  • Quantum Information

  • Advanced Digital

  • Data Science

  • ICT (Information and Communications Technology)

Fun fact, the IT sector is thriving throughout Australia, and pursuing a course in any IT-related field will significantly increase your job prospects.

In 2021-2022, there are 15,000 places available under the program.

Requirements to have a Nominator

To be eligible for the Global Talent Independent (GTI) program , it is necessary to have a reputable Australian organization or an individual who is either an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen with a national recognition in the same field as your nominator. However, your nominator is not obligated to offer you employment in Australia.

While assessing the ‘National Reputation’ of the nominator, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) looks for solid track records of achievements, evidence of high caliber, leadership in the relevant field of expertise, patents, international publications on their name, prestigious international memberships, professional associations with leading organizations of the industry, and research work in the same field.
